The Great Depression
lyrics by Sally Tomato
music by Carlos Severe Marcelin

In 1929, the stock market it crashed
people were drinking coke
they weren't doing hash
people they were poor you know and they wandered the streets
they were going anywhere where opportunity meets
i would like to know if there was homeless people then
were they simply hobos, riding the train till the end
they went from town to town and city and city abound
those people who had no jobs, no money, no friends, no where to go

the people on the radio
they said common johnny go go go
the war was coming and what do you know
they signed up for the cause

i'd like to think
that people had some pride back then
i would like to think
that things were not so bad

but now it's 19... no it's 2003
things are so upsetting to me
people out of work
people who can't play
'cause their paycheck's not coming in.
